Rolly Rebels — Golden Oldies rugby in Rolleston:
Slower
Wiser
Still Rowdy.
Built for
the long game.
We're a bunch of Rolleston locals who still love the feel of a Saturday jersey — even if the knees hurt a little longer on Sunday.
The Rolly Rebels are the Golden Oldies side of Rolleston Rugby Club. We lace up every couple of weeks through the winter, chase the ball around, and then head to the clubrooms for the part most of us really come for: a feed, a cold one, and a yarn with the other side.
Whether you're a rusty old prop, a recently-retired flanker, or someone who hasn't touched a rugby ball since high school and is curious whether the legs still work — there's a jersey in your size and a seat at the long table.
Awarded Friendliest Team at the Golden Oldies World Festival, Christchurch 2018.
Fixtures &
Social Diary.
Golden Oldies sides arrange their own fixtures, so this diary fills up as other clubs reach out. Games are usually Sunday afternoons, 2 pm kick-off, three twenty-minute halves with rolling subs. No scorekeepers, no league table — just a good hit-up and a long dinner afterwards.
Our season runs April to September, with home games at Foster Park, Rolleston, and away days at clubs around Canterbury and Christchurch. Load this page with JavaScript enabled to see the current season's diary.

The stuff
everyone asks.
Who can play for the Rolly Rebels?
Anyone aged 35 or over, whatever your experience or fitness. No trials, no fitness tests, no contract — rusty old props, recently retired flankers, and people who haven't touched a rugby ball since school are all equally welcome. We'll kit you out with a jersey on game day.
What is Golden Oldies rugby?
Golden Oldies is social rugby for players aged 35 and up — sometimes called masters rugby, veterans rugby or presidents-grade rugby. The emphasis is on fun, safety and the after-match: modified rules, no competition ladder, and a feed with the other side once the whistle goes.
When and where do the Rolly Rebels play?
Our season runs April to September. Games are Sundays with a 2 pm kick-off — three twenty-minute halves with rolling subs. Home games are at Foster Park in Rolleston (Selwyn district, Canterbury), and away games are at clubs around Canterbury and Christchurch.
How do I join the Rolly Rebels?
Fill in the expression-of-interest form on this page, email hello@rollyrebels.co.nz, or just turn up to a game about 30 minutes before kick-off and introduce yourself. One of the committee will sort the rest.
Can our team arrange a game against the Rolly Rebels?
Yes — Golden Oldies sides arrange their own fixtures, and we're always keen for a run. Use the request-a-game calendar on this page to flick us the Sundays that suit, and we'll sort a game home or away.
Do I need to bring my own gear?
Boots and a mouthguard if you have them — jerseys are sorted on game day. If you're short on anything, let us know and we'll raid the kit bag.
